The Wall Was Blasted Down!
Kenneth Greatorex

What WALL some may ask? The wall that divided the Jews and Gentiles was destroyed never to be resurrected again Ephesians 2:14-16 tells us. “For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the DIVIDING WALL, by abolishing in His flesh THE ENMITY, which is the Law OF COMMANDMENTS contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into ONE NEW MAN, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them BOTH in ONE BODY to God through the cross, by it having put to death the ENMITY.” NASU.

This may be “stepping on some folks,” however it must be said that the biggest BOX many are boxed into, which traces back to the early days of the church is, Judaism. Not its modern forms, but that which prevailed back then. Paul spent much time blasting at this BOX that insists that the work of Jesus Christ must be supplemented by the LAW of Moses. He said, “I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting. Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;” [Galatians 1:6 NASU] This different gospel is the mixing of the Law with GRACE. Differently put: The gospel of the death of Christ plus works, be it circumcision, or otherwise.

The Law of Moses is over and gone! The prevailing law is now the LAW of the SPIRIT of LIFE - not death. As previously written, It bothered me when I heard the phrase “Judeao-Christianity.” To me, Christ has no part with Judaism. You cannot be both a Jew and a Christian. It is nonsense to say that a Jew who has come to Christ is now a “completed Jew.” This is kind of mixture that Jesus warned against, mixing the old with the new. There are so many BOXES of every type in this unholy MIXTURE.

A “sacred cow” that must be addressed, is the belief that many have, including some who believe in the salvation of all and ultimate reconciliation. Not only is the Law accepted as part of Christian living, some believe that during a 1000 year millennium, that temple worship will be restored and the nations will come to Jerusalem to participate in it. The simple question arises as to how that which has been done away with in Christ, and is inferior to Christ, will somehow supercede the New Covenant in his blood. After discussing the fact that God does not desire “sacrifices and offerings,” Hebrews 10:13 tells us, “He takes away the first in order to establish the second.” How can we return to the old and done away with?

The wall of Enmity and Commandments is abolished! The purity of Christ must not be contaminated by mixing the old with the new. Jesus was quite clear about not mixing old and new garment materials. He also said in Matthew 9:17, “Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved." The NEW WINE of the kingdom must not be put in OLD WINESKINS of the Law of Moses.

All efforts, not matter how noble, to mix LAW with GRACE must be BLASTED away for there is only CHRIST, and the Law of the Spirit of Life, and no other way. We are part of the ONE NEW MAN. How can we share the news of the happy God who brings salvation to all, and then impose the legalism of the Law of Moses? We dare not go back to the remains of that which is over and done with. It must be clearly understood that the NEW TESTAMENT provides the correct interpretation of the OLD, and not the other way.

The New English Bible reads: “For he is himself our peace, Gentiles and Jews, he has made the two one, and in his own body of flesh and blood has broken down the enmity which stood like a dividing wall between them; for he annulled the law with its rules and regulations, so as to create out of the two a single new humanity in himself, thereby making peace. This was his purpose, to reconcile the two in a single body to God through the cross, on which he killed the enmity.” Ephesians 2:14-16.
