SONG OF THE LORD
Kenneth Greatorex

“Then Hezekiah gave the order to offer the burnt offering on the altar. When the burnt offering began, the song to the LORD also began with the trumpets, {accompanied} by the instruments of David, king of Israel.” 2 Chronicles 29:27 (NAU)

The words, “The song of the Lord,” have come to me several times recently. The first time I ever heard those words was in Latter Rain meetings in Chicago in 1956. I well recall Omar Johnson telling us to never let the “song of the Lord die out in us.” It was an imperative word, which I have never forgotten even though some 50 years have gone by.

So, what is this “Song of the Lord?” While some have limited it to certain aspects, such as prophetic song, simply put it is the Anointed One within singing forth worship. I doubt that I can word it any simpler than that, other than to say, it is the flowing forth of the anointing from within.

It is Jesus singing in the midst of the congregation. "I will proclaim your name to my brethren, in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” Hebrews 2:12 (NAU)

As one who grew up in the Pentecostal Movement, all we knew was to verbalize such words as “Hallelujah,” “glory,” “praise the Lord,” and few more. Often as we would sing chouses there would be a sense of the anointing, and not knowing how to give expression, the singing of songs would carry on and on. This is the way it is in many circles today, including those that have been touched by the Move of the Spirit, often called Latter Rain, or the Charismatic renewal, sons of God, etc. It would seem that the Song of the Lord has died out, and if it even gets a chance to begin, it is quickly cut off with yet another chorus, a prophecy (which can be held), or whatever. There is no time for the Anointed One within to sing forth worship to our Father. It may be a simple “Hallelujah,” it may be in a language given of the Spirit, it may be a prophetic song of worship.

Many are desiring a “fresh move of the Spirit.” A great revival! Sure, the Lord may well send forth such, but hear/read my word, that is not where it is at! What God is going to do will transcend, will exceed, all of that. Our Father’s agenda is not just another time of quickening of the “vive” the life within as wonderful and necessary for some as that may be.

God’s purposes are on schedule! There is much fear being brought about today by those who think that man can solve such things as “global warming.” Historically the earth has warmed and cooled. In the depths of Lake Huron there are petrified trees, which proves that man really knows very little and that the Almighty is in charge. Certainly, we need to do our part to clean up the air and water, and then let God be God. No doubt many evangelical types have latched onto this “scientific fear” raising, as it fits well with their confused “end time” theories. I repeat that “God’s purposes are on schedule!”

In the early days of the Pentecostal movement of more than 100 years ago, there were times when the “song of the Lord” came forth, but it was not to last. It was in the early days of the 1948 move of the Spirit that some of the brothers traveled from North Battleford to Edmonton Alberta. As a brother was preaching from the second chapter of the Song of Solomon, the “song of the Lord” was restored to the church.

There have been times when the corporate song of the Lord would rise to a crescendo and then fade to an almost inaudible sound, and then would rise again to another crescendo, fade, and then again rise, and fade. Perhaps it would come to a time of holy awe, or a time when an anointed one would sing forth a revelatory song, and then the corporate song of the Lord would again, even as the waves of the sea, rise and fall. Hearts would melt in His presence, and tears would often flow as we knew we were in the Presence of the Lord God Almighty.

Methinks that there is coming a fresh restoration of such worship, as many have never known such. Many today give their best musical efforts for worship, and without a doubt God looks upon the honest heart and respects the adoration given, and yet there is more. Much more!

There is a song to be sung as the redeemed of all ages bow in worship to acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. Indeed! ALL will bow in humble adoration, yes willingly bow/kampto, as they worship Him whom they acknowledge as LORD!

Rev 5:11-14 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing." And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, "To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, {be} blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever." And the four living creatures kept saying, "Amen." And the elders fell down and worshiped. (NAU)

As an old chorus says, “There’s a mighty glory coming.” We have yet to behold in fullness that which we have seen in part. This GLORY is not a cloud, or midst, it is people arising in the anointing, the character and nature of THE Son of God. It is the arising of THE Son within the sons setting creation free. This is where God is leading those who are of Him, those who will hear His voice and walk in His ways.

Song 2:11-13 "For behold, the winter is past, the rain is over {and} gone. "The flowers have {already} appeared in the land; the time has arrived for pruning {the vines} and the voice of the turtledove has been heard in our land. "The fig tree has ripened its figs, and the vines in blossom have given forth {their} fragrance. Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come along!"' (NAU)

“Let the true Song of the LORD arise in you. Let it burst forth from within the depths of your spirit, let it flow forth, and as it sets you free, it will set creation free. For the anointing will flow forth even as a river, even as a river of fire that shall cleanse the land and bring forth beauty for ashes as all of creation sings for glory unto Me. Sing O sons of God sing, and by the anointing set creation free!

For that which I have purposed, that which has been in My mind from the ages past shall surely come to pass. Look not on the impossibilities, the days of seeming failure, for am I not the God of the impossible? Have I not taken that which was hopeless and turned it into a miracle of My grace? Sing! O My sons, sing the song I have placed within you!”
