Psalm 47
(LXX, 46)
By Jonathan Mitchell
Unto the Goal (or: Completion; the Finished Product); Over (About) the Sons of Kore; a Psalm
1. All you ethnic multitudes (or: nations), clap your hands! At once shout aloud to God (or: cry out the war cry for God) in a voice of great joy (or: from exultant rejoicing),
2. because [the] LORD (= Yahweh) Most High [is] awesome (inspires reverent respect): a great King upon the earth!
3. He arranges peoples under [our; His] influence among us (or: He subordinates peoples to us; He subdued peoples for us; He subjected peoples by us; He placed peoples under, with us) - even ethnic multitudes (or: nations) under our feet.
4. He at one point selected and picked out for us (or: He suddenly spoke out a gathered arrangement among us; He utters forth a Logos to us; He chooses in us) the inheritance from, and which is, Him (or: the enjoyment of His allotment): the beauty and excellence of Jacob, whom He unconditionally accepts and loves (urges toward unrestricted, unambiguous reunion with, in participation as with persons standing on the same ground, despite their demonized state). Pause and think about this (or interlude on strings).
5. God ascends (steps up) within a shout (in a loud voice or a cry; in union with bleating of sheep or goats): [the] LORD (= Yahweh) in a sound of a trumpet (or: centered in a voice from a trumpet).
6. At once strum, make music and sing to, and for, our God (or: in and with our God); at once strum, make music and sing! At once strum, make music and sing to, and for, our King; at once strum and make music and sing,
7. because (or: since) God [is] King of all the earth, at once strum, make music and sing with understanding (by making things flow together).
8. God reigns as King upon the swarms of ethnic multitudes (or: nations; Gentiles): God is continuously seated upon His set-apart (holy; sacred) throne.
9. Rulers (Chiefs; Princes; Originating folks; Heads of families) of (or: from) peoples have been gathered together with the God of Abraham. Because the strong ones of the earth belong to God, they are exceedingly lifted up (or: Since, from God, the strong ones from this Land were very much raised up).
