The Gospel of John - Chapter 17

1. Jesus speaks (or: spoke) these things and then, lifting up His eyes into the sky (or: the atmosphere; the heaven), says, "O Father, the hour has come and is now here: bring glory (give a good reputation; bring an assumed appearance and a manifestation which calls forth praise) to Your Son, to the end that the Son can bring glory (or: may give a recognized appearance and a good reputation; would bring a manifestation which calls forth praise) to and for You.

2. "Correspondingly as You give (or: gave) to Him right, privilege and authority from out of Being concerning ALL flesh (= people and organic critters; Gen. 1:26-28) to the end that ALL, which You have given to Him and that He now possesses, to THEM He will continue (or: one-after-another be) giving [other MSS: would at some point give] eonian Life (life having its origin in, and the qualities and characteristics of, the Age [of Messiah]; or: age-enduring life; life of, for, and in, the ages).

3. "Now THIS is (or: exists being) eonian Life (living existence of and for the ages; life pertaining to the Age [of Messiah]): namely, that they may progressively come to intimately and experientially know You, the only (or: sole) true and real (genuine) God - and Jesus Christ, Whom You send forth as an Emissary (or: as well as Jesus [as the] Anointed One, whom You sent off as a Representative).

4. "I Myself glorify You (or: brought a recognized appearance for You; present a good reputation with a manifestation which called forth praise to You) upon the earth (or: Land), by finishing and perfecting (bringing to its goal, purpose, destiny and fruition) the Work (the Deed; the Act) which You have given to (or: in; for) Me, to the end that I could do (or: would perform; may produce; should create) [it].

5. "So now You Yourself, O Father, glorify (bring a good reputation and a manifestation which calls forth praise to) Me alongside Yourself (or: with the presence of Yourself) in, by, and with, the glory (recognition; assumed appearance-manifestation which calls forth praise) which I was having (or: used to hold) and continued holding at Your side and in Your presence, before the universe (or: system; world of culture, religion and government) is continuing to have being (or: which I was constantly possessing, alongside Yourself, before the aggregate of humanity continued to exist with You).

6. "I brought Your Name to clear light and manifest it to the humans (people) whom You gave to, and for, Me from out of the midst of the System (or: aggregate of humanity; organized culture and religion; world of a dominated society). They were existing in You (or: with You; by You; for You) and You gave them to Me (for Me; in Me), and they have kept, observed, taken care of, and watched over, and maintained, Your Logos (the Word, Message, patterned Idea, and Blueprint, from You).

7. "Now (or: At this moment) they have intimately and experientially known that ALL - as many, or however much, as You have given to Me, so that I now possess - continuously exist (or: are; [other MSS: constantly is and exists]) from You, and are at Your side and in Your presence,

8. "and that I have given to THEM, and they now possess, the gush-effects (results of the flow; spoken words; sayings; declarations) which You gave to Me, and give in and by Me, and so they themselves received (accepted) [them], then came to intimately and experientially know truly (or: with reality) that I came from beside You (or: went forth from Your presence), and they trust and believe that (or: are faithful because) You, Yourself, sent Me forth: an Emissary-Representative.

9. "I, Myself, am now requesting about (or: concerning) THEM. I am not presently requesting about the System (this religious, political and cultural world; or: the aggregate of humanity; this system of domination), but rather, about (or: concerning) those whom You have given to Me, and I possess.

10. "Because THEY continuously exist (or: are) in You (or: by You; for You; with You), You gave THEM to Me. Thus, all (the Whole) that is Mine, [is] Yours, and the things [that are] Yours [are] Mine, and I have been - and remain - glorified (made to be a recognized appearance and a manifestation which calls forth praise) within, in union with, and among, THEM.[cf Rom. 8:30b]

11. "And so, I am no longer within the System (or: And yet I no longer exist being in union with, or centered in, this world of culture and religion, or the domination arrangement), and yet they themselves are continuing to be within the System (world; ordered arrangement of the current society) - and I, Myself, am progressively going toward You (or: constantly coming face to face with You). O Father, O Set-apart and Holy One, watch over and care for THEM (keep, maintain, and guard them) within, and in union with, Your Name-Designation - which You have given to Me, and I now have - to the end that they can (or: would) continuously exist being one, correspondingly as (just as; in the same sphere as; to the same degree as; on the same level as) We Ourselves [are]. [cf vs. 22, below]

12. "When I was being with THEM [other MSS add: within the System], I Myself was continually watching over, caring for, observing, keeping, guarding, and maintaining, THEM in union with (or: in the sphere of) Your Name - which You have given to Me, and I now have - and I protected [them], and NOT ONE from among THEM lost himself (or: destroyed himself), unless (or: except) [it be] the son of ‘the loss’ (or: certainly not this son from the Destruction, or this humanity with the characteristics of loss and destruction, the destroyed one), so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.

13. "Yet now (at this moment) I am progressively coming toward You, and I continue speaking these things aloud, within the System (in the sphere of this world of domination and aggregate of humanity), so that they can continuously hold (or: would habitually have) My own joy (the Joy that is Mine) existing having been filled full (made full and continuing full) within the midst of themselves.

14. "I, Myself, have given Your Logos (Your Word; the Reason, Thought and Idea from You; the laid-out Message and Blueprint, which is You) to THEM, and the domination System (world of government and religion) hates them (treats and regards them with ill will; detaches from them), because they do not exist from out of the dominating System as their source (= are not being a product of that world), correspondingly as I, Myself, am not from out of the dominating System, as My origin (or: just as, in Myself, I do not exist [springing up] from the midst of the world of religious or governmental dominance).

15. "I am not now making a request to the end that You should pick them up and carry (or: remove; take) them out of the System (world; ordered arrangement of culture, religion, economy and government; human aggregate), but rather that You should observe, guard, protect, maintain, care for, and keep, THEM out of the worthless or bad situation, the sorry plight, the effect of the knavish and good-for-nothing person, the oppressive toil and the base or evil influence.

16. "They do not exist (are not being) from out of this System (world of society, religion or politics) as a source or origin, just as I, Myself, am not from this System (world) as a source or origin.

17. "Set THEM apart (or: Make them different from the norm) within the midst of the Truth (or: centered in union with this Reality). Your Logos (Word; Blueprint; Idea) exists being the Truth (or: Your Thought, Pattern-forming Influence, Meaning-bearing Information, and expressed Purpose, is the Reality; Your laid-out, communicated Reason continues with Being [as] Reality).

18. "Correspondingly (or: Just; In the sphere; On the level) as You sent Me into the System (world of religious and political dominance; human aggregate) as an Emissary, I Myself also send THEM forth as emissaries (representatives) into the prevailing, organized system of the human aggregate,

19. "and I, Myself, am continuously setting Myself apart over THEM (progressively making Myself different from the norm, on their behalf) to the end that they themselves, also, can (may; would) keep on existing being ones having been set-apart, in the sphere of Reality (centered within Truth).

20. "I am not now making a request about these only, but further about those habitually trusting and progressively believing into Me through their word (or: logos; message; what they lay out),

21. "TO THE END that ALL humans would (or: all people can) continuously exist being ONE, just, and correspondingly, as You, O Father [other MSS: Father], [are] within the midst of Me, and I [am] within the midst of You - so that they, themselves, may and would also continuously exist being within the midst of Us, TO THE END that the aggregate of humanity (or: this System: world of culture, religion and government) can (would) continuously trust and progressively believe that (or: could continue faithful, because) YOU sent ME forth as an Emissary with a mission,

22. "and I, Myself, have given to THEM (or: in them), and they now possess, the GLORY (notion; opinion; imagination; assumed appearance-manifestation which calls forth praise) which You have given to Me, and which I now possess, TO THE END that they can continuously exist being ONE correspondingly as (just, accordingly, to the same level, and in the same sphere, as) We are ONE:

23. "I within the midst of, and in union with, THEM and You within the midst of, and in union with, ME, TO THE END that they would (or: could; should; can) continuously exist being folks having been perfected (brought to the destined goal; finished; completed; matured and purposed) into ONE - so that the human aggregate (or: the domination System) can (or: could; would) progressively come to experientially know that (or: experience insight, because) YOU commissioned and sent ME forth, and You LOVE, accept, and urge toward reunion with, THEM correspondingly as (or: just as; in the same sphere and to the same level as) You LOVE, accept, and give Yourself to, ME.

24. "O Father, I continue purposing and intending (or: willing; wanting) that those also, whom You have given to Me, and that I now possess, would continuously exist being with Me where I, Myself, AM (or: where I AM and exist Being), TO THE END that they can (or: may; could; would) constantly look upon and keep on contemplatively watching My own glory (assumed Appearance; manifested Presence which incites praise), which You have given to Me as a possession because You loved (accepted; fully gave Yourself to) Me before [the; a] casting-down of [the; a] cosmos (or: [the] founding of a world, or an organized system; a sowing [as seed], or [conception] of an aggregate of humans [cf Heb. 11:11]; commencement of a system of a society; or: a casting corresponding to, and in the sphere of, an ordered disposition of [the] Domination System).

25. "O fair and equitable Father (O Father, who are the paradigm of justice, uprightness, honesty and rightwised relationship - the source of what is right; O deliverance-bringing Father who puts things right), though the aggregate of humanity (System; world of culture, religion, economy and government) does not have intimate, experiential knowledge of You, yet I Myself experientially and intimately know You (or: the world, also, did not know You by experience, yet I personally knew You), and these people recognize and know that (or: because) YOU sent ME forth as a commissioned Emissary,

26. "and I made Your Name and Designation intimately known to, for, in and among THEM - and I will continue making It experientially known, TO THE END that the LOVE (acceptance; urge toward union with, and Self-giving to, [all]) [in; with] which You love (accept; give Yourself to) Me can (would; could) continuously be (or: progressively exist) within the midst of, centered in, and among, THEM - and I MYSELF within the midst of, among, in union with, and centered in, THEM."
